Software Engineering Services (SES) was founded on the basic principle of providing outstanding high-level services to organizations as they continue improving the way they do business. Our ultimate goal is to get clients on the road to continuous improvement through use of key process improvement models and methodologies such as the ever-popular and evolving Capability Maturity Model^® Integration (CMMI^®) developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University.

SES has a proven track record for successfully providing both process improvement and leading edge information technology systems solutions to a variety of clients. As a CMMI^® Level 3 appraised company; SES understands the challenges inherent in transitioning an information technology organization into a new environment. Based on our real-world experience with process improvement, SES is in a distinctive position to maintain highly qualified and experienced staff for providing the most optimal process improvement solutions possible using the most up-to-date and emerging tools, techniques and methodologies possible. We have developed Process-Trak™ based on this collaborative knowledge and experience.

SES has used our process improvement skills to help a number of companies achieve success both with the Software-CMM^® (SW-CMM^®) and CMMI^® Level 2/3 assessments. Some highlights of SES process improvement successes include:

• ING-Equitable of Iowa - In the midst of Y2K, SES led the seamless SW-SMM implementation effort at ING-Equitable of Iowa. SES developed all required processes, procedures, forms, checklists, templates and training to allow ING-Equitable of Iowa to achieve CMM Maturity Level 2. SES provided the initial resources to establish CM, test and Quality Assurance capabilities until ING-Equitable could obtain its own resources, and then trained and qualified the ING-Equitable resources. Using the SES a-CMM methodology, the entire SW-CMM implementation, from start to successful assessment at Maturity Level 2, was accomplished in less than eight months, with no impact to the concurrent ING-Equitable Y2K activities.
• Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield (ABCCS) – In a similar fashion as ING-Equitable of Iowa, SES led the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield (ABCCS) Fiscal Intermediary Shared System (FISS) Maintenance Organization in achieving SW-CMM Maturity Level 2 and then later helped them successfully transition to CMMI Maturity Level 2.
• CIBER Federal - Using its accelerated-CMMI (a-CMMI) methodology, SES led the CIBER Federal Arlington, VA operation from no documented processes to a successful CMMI Level 3 formal appraisal in eight months.
• ViPS - SES led the successful accelerated-CMMI Level 2 implementation effort at ViPS using its a-CMMI methodology.
• Physicians Mutual - Developed a complete software and systems development process and documentation suite for them based on SW-CMM and industry best practices. They were not interested in a formal SW-CMM assessment but were more interested in ensuring individual project health so SES accomplished several “project health reviews.”
• Other process improvement successes for SES include: Iowa Department of Human Services, Ameritas, Microware and Origin Interactive.
